Single Digit Commute

2011 · 01 · 24

House on Red Corner · 2011-01-24 · Daughter, Son, bakfiets

This morning when we woke up, the temperature gauges only needed one digit to express how cold it was and how much clothing we needed in order to get to where we needed to go. I think the number was a five, but what’s the real difference between four or six?

TheBubster was screaming about being exhausted as soon as she woke up, and refused to get out of bed, which is really unhelpful when there is an additional ten minutes of preparations due to weather. Once she got started following her routine, and had a bowl of warm oatmeal, things improved greatly. After the ski pants, sweater, gloves, hat, scarf and warm jacket were donned she was ready to go.

LittleBud, on the other hand, was an absolute angel to prepare. Practically fixed himself a peanut butter sandwich for brekkie, jumped into his clothes and was ready to get out the door very fast.

I had to put the weather dome on the bakfiets so that there was not a stiff wind chapping little faces all the way to the school. When we got underway, there was a strange whistling whine coming from the bike all the way. I stopped a couple times to try to locate it, but as soon as the bike stopped moving, the noise disappeared. This meant that it was something that was associated with the moving parts, the wheels specifically. When We arrived at PS 47, I was able to see that there was a huge blob of frozen slush underneath the front fender that was rubbing the front wheel just enough to produce the annoyance. Some kicking and poking made it go away and the ride home was silent.

LittleBud and I will be remaining inside most of the day; until its time to go and get Sissy; which will give us ample time to take care of some chores and organizing various areas of chaos into reasonable shape.
